Quiet Pubs

The petition is entitled Limit the volume of pub/bars background music to a sensible level so that people can come to a pub/bar and actually have a conversation without yelling at the top of their lungs and the explanatory notes say

"bars and pubs are way to loud and its really annoying"

There are pubs and bars which are so loud you have to shout. It is, indeed, annoying. The cunning solution I have come up with is not to go to those pubs/bars.

If pubs/bars are so noisy that they disturb neighbours, I quite agree that they should be quietened. But - once again - this is a petition complaining about, well, the Free Market. I'm all for consumer protection within the free market, but this is restricted to non-monopolising, non-lying, and perhaps not selling without warning things that are actively dangerous. (And possibly other things I haven't thought of, but I think that covers it. Workers need more protection than consumers, in general - but that's the other side of the coin entirely.)
