Pet Curfew

The petition is entitled Give our pets their freedom and the explanatory notes say
"A proposal has been put forward to reduce the number of hours our household pets can roam freely outside.

This is clearly a violation of their human rights as they were all once wild animals - just like us - and should not be made prisoners in their own homes. A curfew of 7pm for dogs and 9pm for cats is a ridiculous proposition and we should to everything we can to prevent this from becoming law."

The nearest I can find to a "proposal" on this subject is courtesy of the BBC's Action Network where a singular absence of support is being put forward by anyone at all.

It refers to an Australian system whereby cat curfews can be imposed in districts where there's a conservation issue with cats attacking rare animals. I find no particular descriptions of how many times this sort of curfew has been applied, nor how successfully. (I do note with interest, though, that it's compulsory to have your cats "done", unless you have specific permission to keep them able to breed. I wonder how well-enforced this is?)

In short, no such proposal has been put forward with any degree of seriousness, and it seems to me there is in fact no risk of any such thing happening. Oh, I lie - there is of course the petition I mentioned in my post Roaming Pets. So I suppose this petition, broadly opposing that one, has a certain justification for existence. Almost.

Oh. I don't think you can violate a pet's human rights, you know. Really. Even though they and we were once wild animals. They still don't have human rights. No, really.
