An Accused person should be given three options, Not Guilty, Guilty or Guilty with a mitigating circumstance then someone pleading 'Guilty' would get the appropriate sentence whilst someone pleading 'Not Guilty'who is subsequently found to be Guilty would receive, automatically, a penalty for that perjury equal to the appropriate sentence for the crime committed. This would deal with the defective ruling which now rewards someone for a guilty plea even when they are caught 'redhanded'
The logic makes me very uncomfortable as a woolly liberal but never mind that - wow, this is going to do wonders for the prison population ..!
Further, I assume the last sentence should read "This would deal with the defective ruling which now rewards someone for a not guilty plea even when they are caught 'redhanded'". And I dispute the idea that people are rewarded for pleading not guilty - at best, they're not being punished as this petitioner thinks they should be. Surely?
